How to Create a QR Code for a Google Maps Location
If customers or guests struggle to find you, a map QR code can help. One scan opens your location in their maps app, ready for directions. It is useful for shops, offices, event venues, restaurants and any place that is hard to find.
Why use a map QR code?
Describing directions is slow and often confusing. A map QR code removes the guesswork. It works well on:
- Business cards and flyers
- Invitations for weddings, parties and events
- Shop windows and signs
- Delivery notes and receipts
- Real estate listings and boards
Step 1: Get your location link
- Open Google Maps on your phone or computer.
- Search for your business or drop a pin on the exact spot.
- Tap or click Share.
- Copy the link provided.
If your business is already listed on Google Maps, use that listing, since it also shows your photos, hours and reviews. If it is not listed, drop a pin at the exact entrance and share that.
Step 2: Check the link
Paste the link into your phone's browser and make sure it opens the right place. Zoom in and confirm the pin is at the entrance, not just somewhere on the street. For large compounds or estates, place the pin at the gate or main entrance people will use.
Step 3: Generate the QR code
- Open SnapQR and paste the Google Maps link.
- Choose dark colors on a light background.
- Generate and download the image.
Share links can be long. If the code looks very dense, use the short link option from Google Maps, which makes the pattern simpler and easier to scan.
Step 4: Add a clear label
Tell people what the code does. For example:
- "Scan for directions"
- "Scan to find our shop"
- "Scan for the venue location"
Adding the written address under the code is also a good idea, in case someone cannot scan.
Step 5: Print and test
Make the printed code at least 2 cm wide for small items and larger for posters. Scan it with an iPhone and an Android phone. On most phones, the link will open in the Maps app if installed, or in the browser otherwise. Confirm that the pin is correct and that directions start properly.
Tips for better results
- Make sure your Google Maps listing is accurate, with correct opening hours and a phone number.
- If you move to a new location, old codes will lead to the wrong place, so update printed materials.
- For events, consider adding a second note with parking and entrance information.
- Do not place the code on a surface that reflects a lot of light.
Summary
A Google Maps QR code makes it easy for people to find you. Share your exact location, check the link, generate the code, add a clear label, and test it on real phones before you print.
